MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide children with an easily accessible art-based learning community that provides teacher-led standards based lessons and facilitates personal growth as well as relationship building. We provide a space for children to feel welcomed, safe, and encouraged while exploring their talents with a variety of art media. Our goal is for your child’s relationship with art to flourish while building a network of relationships that last a lifetime.

Hi, I’m Ms. Marianne.

I’m an education expert and advocate of creativity in the classroom, focused on bringing hands-on, creative lessons back to families and children. I have a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, taught Kindergarten to fourth grade in brick and mortar schools as well as PreK- 5th grade in a virtual school setting. I was a grade level lead teacher for three years and a school committee chair member for Positive Behavior Support and Community Building.

For several years, I mentored first year teachers as well as student teachers from a local college. Student success and love of learning has been my passion for 15+ years. I have two young children of my own and love to use art to inspire them on a daily basis. Art was always a side passion of mine and teaching allowed me to easily use my appreciation of art in my lesson planning.

Hi, I’m Ms. Jennifer

I am an artist in my local community with a passion for creativity and art education.  I have a Bachelor’s in Business and a Master’s in Forensic Science. I am a mom to a six-year-old son and I truly enjoy working with children. My experience includes volunteering as a reading mentor in a virtual children’s program with In2Books and working as a virtual ESL teacher with Cambly Kids. As a former 911 dispatcher, I frequently volunteered to lead educational activities for local schools to help children learn about safety in our community. Recently, I was asked to judge an art contest in our local school system. Seeing the inspiration and art enthusiasm from young children filled my heart with so much joy.

Art has always been a BIG part of my life. For as long as I can remember, I have been making things. My earliest art memory is using the TV Guide to create emotions on people’s faces to make my family laugh. Like most children, I spent a lot of time with my 64-pack of Crayola crayons. I drew everything that I saw but was never satisfied. I remember constantly badgering my mom for more drawing topics. The idea for My Art Friends came from this insatiable appetite for art that I had as a child.

We launched My Art Friends as a way to bring a community of enthusiastic artists together. As moms (who met at our local library when our children were babies!), we know that life can get busy and children need activities that keep their attention as well as foster creativity. We believe in brain based learning strategies that help the child as a whole. There is increasing evidence in the field of neuroscience that art enhances brain function by impacting brain wave patterns, emotions, and the nervous system. Art can also raise serotonin levels. These benefits don’t just come from making art, they also occur by experiencing art. Our goal at My Art Friends is to cultivate a community of artists to build confidence and skill in various art media while building relationships with peers. We hope that you and your child develop a love of art and this community with us.

In today’s world, parenting is tough and being a kid (with immense pressure of our ever changing and fast paced world) is even tougher. It takes a village to raise kids and we are so happy to be a part of that village.  We are so glad you’ve found My Art Friends and hope you’ll keep coming back to visit.
